Occupation: Program Coordinator (Counseling Testing and Referral Services) “I have always found refuge in believing that if you helped your community and do good work you will be happy. It is on that quest that I found myself working for Us Helping Us fulltime. After graduating from college and then spending weeks lounging around enjoying not being in school, it dawn on me that I might need a job, I have responsibilities. I entered into Banking and soon realized that the monotony of the everyday work and the detachment from my community left me felling empty and unhappy. Working in the HIV/AIDS field is so fulfilling, I get to see the changes in my clients and know that I am making a difference…I’m HAPPY now! Rukie T.C. Wilson was born and raised in Jamaica the West Indies. She migrated to Harlem, New York City when she was 11years old. She soon got a dose of the harsh realities of the Black inner city communities in America. She saw the disparities in the Black community verses their White counterparts. Her passion for the law was fueled by the injustice around her and the need to better her community. Her quest further led her to Howard University where she pursued degrees in Political Science and Administration of Justice. She now call DC one of her many homes and is looking forward to continuing her HIV /AIDS work with US Helping Us and young women in the DC area. |
